Stuart B. O'Neil is a Senior Shareholder and Chairman of Cowles & Thompson’s Healthcare section as well as a member of the Tort and Insurance Practice Group at the firm. Mr. O'Neil's practice includes representation of clients in the areas of premises liability, physician malpractice, dental malpractice, hospital negligence, nursing home malpractice, institutional health care litigation, trucking litigation, restaurant litigation, general litigation and product liability litigation throughout the State of Texas. Mr. O’Neil heads a group of attorneys in defending a large international retailer throughout North Texas in all areas of premises litigation including security, slip and fall, falling merchandise and other areas. He has represented entities throughout the State of Texas in State and Federal Courts and in administrative disciplinary proceedings. Mr. O'Neil has defended high profile cases in State and Federal Courts throughout Texas. He has also served in an advisory capacity for corporate clients seeking to develop nationwide strategies for the defense of their tort and health care litigation.
He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, the Dallas Association of Defense Counsel, the Texas Association of Defense Counsel and Defense Research Institute. Mr. O'Neil also actively gives presentations at hospitals, insurance companies, third party administrators, nursing homes and physician groups on multiple issues including risk management and risk assessment. Mr. O'Neil has also given continuing legal education presentations to other lawyers and members of the insurance industry.
Mr. O'Neil received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1982 from St. Francis Xavier University and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1985 from Oklahoma City University Law School where he was a member of the moot court teams. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1986 and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.
