Steve Spitzer is the Managing Shareholder of Cowles & Thompson's Tyler office, where he maintains a litigation practice, representing individuals involved in probate disputes and planning, and representing business owners. In the probate litigation area, he helps clients who have disputes in the areas of wills and estates, guardianship, trusts and heirship. For businesses, he works with them in the areas of preventing litigation and disputes, and when disputes arise, handling them in the most cost-efficient manner. Representation in this area includes contract disputes, vendor and supplier agreement issues, corporate formation disputes, partnership disputes and lawsuits againt the business by customers.
The first three years of Mr. Spitzer's practice were spent in Cowles & Thompson's Dallas office, where he worked from 1989 to 1992. An Athens native, he moved back to East Texas in 1993 to join the Firm's Tyler office. Steve was named a shareholder in 1994, becoming the youngest person to be named shareholder in the history of the Firm.
Mr. Spitzer has litigated many types of cases in his almost twenty years of practice, and has represented many individuals as well as corporations of all sizes. He has served as the first chair attorney in over two dozen jury trials, and is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

A native of East Texas, Mr. Spitzer received his B.B.A. degree, with honors, in 1988 from Baylor University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, in 1989 from Baylor University. Steve obtained his undergraduate and law school degrees, a course of study which normally takes a minimum of seven years to complete, in only five years. The Texas Supreme Court admitted him to practice law in Texas State Courts in 1989, and he is also licensed to practice in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Northern, Western and Southern Districts of Texas. Also, in 2008, Steve was certified as Attorney Ad Litem by the State Bar of Texas.
