Grant T. Gaston is a Senior Associate in the Tyler office of Cowles & Thompson. Grant's practice focuses on meeting the needs of small and medium sized businesses through initial formation, contract needs, employment matters, and litigation issues.
Grant also founded Cowles & Thompson’s Sports and Entertainment Law section where he works closely with artists, writers, athletes, record labels, publishers, promoters, and management companies to negotiate favorable contracts, publishing, merchandising, and endorsement deals, provide advice on licensing, distribution, digital, and media rights, protect against copyright and trademark infringement, and assist with general business matters.
Grant T. Gaston is a Senior Associate in the Tyler office of Cowles & Thompson. Grant's practice focuses on meeting the needs of businesses through both transactional and litigation issues, with additional emphasis in sports & entertainment law.
Grant earned his B.A. degree in History from Texas A&M University, and his J.D. degree from Baylor University School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of Barristers and the Christian Legal Society. Grant represented Baylor University in the Texas Administrative Law Moot Court competition and earned the award for Best Brief at that competition in 2002.
Grant began his professional career as a recruiter for NHRG Technical Services in Austin. While at NHRG, he negotiated high-dollar contracts for employees and employers in the highly competitive e-commerce industry. While at NHRG, he set the first quarter rookie recruiting record for revenue generated through his efforts in negotiating contracts.
He continues his emphasis in negotiating by working closely with artists, writers and athletes to negotiate favorable contracts and endorsement deals, advising on licensing, distribution and media rights, protecting against copyright and trademark infringement, and assisting with general business matters.
Grant remains extremely active in the Upward Sports Ministry, coaching youth flag football, baseball, basketball, and soccer. He has served as the co-Director for Upward Tyler’s Flag Football program since 2009.
Grant also enjoys serving the community through Junior Achievement and acting as a committee member for SportTyler, an organization that promotes and attracts amateur sports and public recreational activities to Tyler and East Texas.
Grant is a member of the National Sports Lawyers Association and the State Bar of Texas Entertainment and Sports Law Section. He is admitted to practice in all of the Texas Federal Courts and is a member of the Smith County Bar Association. Also, in 2008, Grant was certified as Attorney Ad Litem by the State Bar of Texas.
Grant and his wife Emily are members of Green Acres Baptist Church where he teaches the Couples of Promise Sunday School class. Grant and Emily are the proud parents of three very active boys and a tough-as-nails daughter.
