It’s that time of year again where Mike Northrup (head of the Cowles Thompson Appellate practice) provides his annual statistical analysis of the activities of the Supreme Court of Texas during the prior calendar year.

For example:  Mike noted a “flurry” of activity may have been prompted by the departure of Chief Justice Nathan Hecht.  The breakdown of matters disposed of consists of 100 petitions for review, four (4) certified questions from the Fifth Circuit, and twenty (20) original proceedings.

Mike Northrup is a Shareholder and Section Head of the Cowles and Thompson Appellate Practice Group. He practices in both the trial and appellate courts in cases involving personal injury, insurance issues, employment law, commercial disputes, and zoning disputes. He also provides litigation support to attorneys in other sections of the firm. Mike served as a briefing attorney for former Chief Justice Thomas R. Phillips, Texas Supreme Court, 1988-89.
